I did a NO NO!

I certainly meant to post my card I made at stamp club but I did a huge NO NO that prevented me from doing so. I inherited my daughter's old IPhone and downloaded the app for Nook. Let me tell you why that is a huge NO NO for me...*okie sighs deeply and closes eyes resigning that she must tell this awful secret*

I rarely read. I use to read and read voraciously but I stopped after I had my daughter. The reason being that once I start a book I can't stop. It irritates me to stop and eat or go to the bathroom, it irritates me to be distracted, it irritates me for someone to even breath at me when I am reading, I even sometimes unplug the phone. When my daughter was born I knew I wouldn't be able to handle the addiction of reading a book and providing adequate care for my child *okie thinks that sometimes Child Welfare is a little too picky* so I gave up reading. Even today my daughter does not like it when I read because I snap at her when she interrupts me but I think she is getting the hang of it because when she even moves her lips to speak I state rather strongly "I AM READING!!!" *okie tries to show her readers the grimacing face she makes also but knows it just won't come through on the monitor*

Okay back to the Nook app, well I downloaded Breaking Dawn to try it out and of course even though I have read it before I didn't want to stop but there were a few times I had to do so, like going to work, eating, going to the bathroom and going to Stamp Club. However, I think Linda, aka LGuild, was less than amused with me a few times yesterday when I would whip out my phone and start reading. But I did stop long enough last night to work on a card and finish it up and I promise to take pictures and get it posted tomorrow.

I would love to have a Kindle or Nook but I think that is probably not a good idea if I ever hope to craft....eat, drink, work, leave the house, well you get the picture, ever again!

  1. I thought I was the only one who could fall into a book and not be able to climb out until the very last word! I have to limit myself -- I only read after my six year old has gone to bed and when I am waiting in car pick-up at the Elementary School. Otherwise, clothes don't get washed and folded, people and pets don't get fed and my house would be a total wreck instead of the half a wreck it always is. Ahhh, I love a good book!!!!

  2. HEHEHE, I am the same way, read all of the Twilight series in 10 days, just couldn't stop, my dear hubby wasn't too happy with me!! Haven't read anything since.

  3. haha I am right there with you on that one. I love to read but cannot put the book down till its over. My husband doesn't understand how I can get lost in a book. But its ok he doesn't have to as long as he leaves me alone so I can read it.

  4. I am totally addicted to my Kindle.
I go no where without it. The best thing is when I am driving I can turn the text to speech and it will read to me. Best thing since sliced bread. LOL! I bought three of the Sharper Image Literati for Xmas presents ($75.00) they are really cool coz they are in color and have a back light, but they don't read to you. But the Twilight series I totally hate, downloaded the audible for the first book and didn't even finish. I can honestly say I always read the complete book if I start, but not that one. Try Sherilyn Kenyon now those are some good readings.
I am totally supporting your addiction. But I LOVE your crafting.

  5. I read each Twilight series book in 2 days! I was up till 3 am every night reading and would read them for 10 hours straight on the weekends when I wasn't working. SO totally addictive! There should be therapy for it. I was thinking of re-reading them again as it's been a few years since I have but i'm too afraid i'll pick them up and do nothing for 8 days straight b/c I won't be able to put them down. lol! I think you have LOTS of sympathizers here ;-)

  6. I used to read a lot, then I got married.. I have not read a book in years.. My daughter just turned 10 and she LOVES to read. In the car she will read a book and I will be asking questions.. I get "Mom I am reading" with a big sigh.. sound familiar ;) I guess she will get worse as she gets older.. Lovely.. Take turns... Read a book then do some crafting before you start another book.. You are too funny!!! LisaMH

  8. When I read the Twilight Series books about two years ago I didn't even plan on reading them. My daughter had read them and I picked the first one up around Noon on a Saturday and read through the series all at once, finishing Breaking Dawn on that Monday night.

  9. Okie, I thought I was the only one that gave up reading (with the exception of kiddie books to her) when my DD was born! My kids gave me a kindle for my b-day which is Monday because I had spent so much time in the hospital with DD away from my scrappin' stuff! Go ahead Okie you can do both as I can't since I'm now DH's primary caregiver. I do enjoy admiring your beautiful creations though.

  10. Okie,

Also download the app for Kindle. Here's a website for you that updates daily with all the free ebooks being offered. You have to check it daily though, because they're usually free for no more than 24 hours!!!

  11. I totally understand! Personally I'm suspicious of those who DON'T feel this way when they start a book. My kids used to hide my books or complain loudly - "tyou have ANOTHER book..."

  12. LOL...... I'm the same way. When I start reading 6 or 8 hrs can go by before I know it. I usually finish a book in a day. I bought a book yesterday at Goodwill (love me some bargains) and have finshed it already.... Hubs was aggravated that I was reading (quiet as a mouse, mind you) while we were watching TV together...LOL

One consulation....my hubs loves to read too!!!

  14. Glad to see I'm not the only one who gets involved in her books! LOL My mother used to take my books from me and throw them away because I didn't hear her when she called me! Can you imagine??!!! LOL I got a Kindle for Christmas and I can say that I am just loving it!! Don't want to put it down though and haven't crafted much at all since getting it. And then to top it off the family thinks I should feed and wash for them instead of reading!! Seriously I love being able to take it with me anyway and having all those books at my finger tips, but not taking up any space. My Kindle is right up there with my Gypsy! I hope one day you will be able to get a Kindle or Nook, but until then enjoy it on your phone. We all get where you are coming from!! Brenda/aka FootballMom

  15. It is never a no no to read. (says the retired first grade teacher) I have not been reading like I love because I am on my computer or crafting all the time but I love it. I gave my hubby an iPad for Christmas. I know I am going to be taking it when he is at work. Hee Hee Boy I really cut into my craft spending. I don't have any money now for 3 or 4 months. Maybe someone will say they want to buy a card. Hee hee. Enjoy your day.

  17. I love the feel of paper in my hands! lol!

Remember the conversation about texting at dinner? Same idea.

I've been known to let cookies burn in the oven or look at the clock and realize it's after 1 a.m. because of a good book myself!

The last time I stayed up all night on a work day to finish a book was when the Exorcist came out. Starting reading, got engrossed, then scared shitless and had to finish it!

  18. Okie .... it's OK .... my house has been known to stay up all hours of the night because someone didn't want to put a book down ... and yes everyone in my house reads ... there have been entire dinner when both of us have a book in front of our faces while eating ... so I understand

  19. I am the same way! I hate putting a book down until I am finished. I downloaded the Nook and Kindle software on my netbook, but the screen does bother my eyes after awhile. I want to get an ereader sometime this year, but I haven't decided if it will be Nook or Kindle.

  20. Okie, I have been reading your posts, but have been just so busy, I have not been posting comments. I have loved every one of the projects you have done...
Let me tell you why...ha ha ha...I have been trying to organize my scraproom...something like what you did, but not near as good. bummer.
I got a kindle for Christmas...I have downloaded about 13 books. I am trying to read the first one and also the Bible I put on there....but I keep having to put it down...bummer. I understand your frustration...It is just sitting there waiting and waiting and calling to me....God bless, Pamela

  21. I understand as you see I am a binge reader. I will go a year without reading and then I read 1 book and a week later I look up after hubby has given up on me, the house in total disaray only to discover that I have read 23 books - and lost 3 friends. It is hard but I was strong and did not down load that app into my phone. Scraping and cardmaking is safe for now.

  22. Well Okie you made me laugh. I love a person with a great sense of humor and that's what you have. I do not read like you do but I do know a few friends that are like you in that respect. Remember we count on you to put out some pretty cards or scrap pages so you can read short little books but we are waiting for you. Don't forget about the little people watching and waiting......

  25. I started reading Dracula today. It was one of the free books. But it isn't as good as reading Breaking Dawn so I was able to pull away from it pretty easy. I do want to finish reading it though. VC Andrews books were one of my vice there for awhile also.

  26. You are right reading is good but not if it controls your everything. Maybe if you have planned timed areas of the day.
