I am being pressured!!

My friend Carmen, aka ScrapperDelighted, has been after me for two years now to go to Houston to visit her. While Houston isn't that far, it is too far to make it in my poor car and well airfare ain't cheap! But now, I also have my friends Lori and Laurie after me about going!

Evidently CKC is going to be in Houston in July and Lori and Laurie are both going. Carmen wanted me to come at that time as well since she thought it would be fun to go *okie looks at her readers with a "surely they can't be serious" look*. Okay did you actually understand what I just said??

HOUSTON...IN...JULY

That will be the equivalent of floating down the river Styx and entering Hades itself!! Think of me as a piece of bacon if you will....all layered with fat and muscle. Now think of me being thrown in a very hot skillet...can you hear me sizzle?? Yeah, well that is what it would be like! I swear these women are just wanting me dead. I can find no other reason why anyone in their right mind would travel to south Texas in the middle of the summer!

I have never been to CKC. They do have it in Tulsa sometime in August and while my friend Linda, aka LGuild, has gone, I was never able to make it with her because it always fell right when school started and I am swamped in paperwork at the time. Linda said she didn't care for it much, of course she isn't into taking classes *okie thinks she doesn't like to take classes either* and she felt the shopping was WWAAYY better at the GASC in Arlington.

So now I have a dilema, do I travel to HELL in July so I can sizzle like a piece of bacon and get to spend some time with friends, or do I just stay at home and just steam bake like a potato. *okie thinks she must be hungry since she is using food comparisons*

  1. We love you Okie, we'll be indoors and cool. Heck I bet there is even a pool at the hotel. They are gonna have Copic Classes!!! Now I will say the GASC is huge and this won't be a huge, but I have been in the past and it was fun. With friends it has got to be better right?
BTW love the think of me as Bacon comment. LOL

  2. Bacon smells so good...must be because I'm on a diet. I think you should go, everything will be air conditioned right? Have fun with your friends. :)

  4. Well, you certainly didn't ask for your readers' opinions, but I'll give you mine anyway. While it will be hothothot, I think you should go. One of the 5 most polific wishes of people on their deathbeds is that they had stayed in closer contact with friends - so go and enjoy your friend. Besides, being in such uncomfortable weather could give you great fodder for your blog articles. :)

  5. Oh Okie! Let me give you a little history....Houston (the biggest city in Texas) is fortunate enough to have this amazing invention called AIR CONDITIONING!! (Laurie rememebers Okie talking about her hometown as being small and all but feels really bad that they must still be living like the fronteir people without air conditioning) And although it will be HOT while you are outside its soooo comfortable inside (and if you go ANYWHERE with Lori Brodnax you will SURELY be comfortable! She about froze out Michelle this weekend!!) And us Texan's we drink something called ICED TEA! Its a marvelous drink! Some like it with Lemon, some with sugar, heck some even put rum, gin or whiskey in it--me personally I like it with lots and lots of sugar!! It cools ya off lickety split! And let me tell ya another little secret...CKC (I've never been either) is held INSIDE a building that also has air conditioning....so do our trucks (Laurie has to say that since both Lori and I drive trucks--gotta stay Texan somehow!) So your excuses have been officially dismissed....guess you are booking that flight now huh?!?! Besides....spending a weekend at a crafting stuff with amazing friends....well that is priceless!!!!

  6. Here is my humble opinion: GO!
My reasons: my sister lives in Houston and we went to visit a couple summers ago~~in July! I don't "do" the heat and it was bearable...just humid. The drive for me was about 16 hours but you're starting closer :) Hey, if this fat girl can go and not sizzle anyone can :)

  10. You know you're going to fry because you will go. It is your BFF's The ones who really love you and who will take care of you. They won't let you fry. You won't be outside and if you stay home you are going to feel sad and sorry for yourself and then we all will have to read about that. GO Okie GO!

  11. Just check the weather to make sure you won't be dealing with any "summer storms" (don't want to jinx anybody)

  12. If you want to go visit Carmen, then hop on SW Airlines and make her pick you up.

Don't waste the $$$ for the show. It's NOTHING like GASC at all!

On the bright side, maybe you could melt off a few pounds?

I'm with you--Houston in July rates right up there with Orlando, FL in August! LOL!

  13. Go! I went to CKC for the first time in St. Louis and it was a blast. The shopping was really good and we also checked out some local scrap stores.
    You'll have fun!!

  15. Yeah, they send my hubby to a convention in Chicago...in FEBRUARY every year. At least you won't slip on the ice and crack your tailbone (now, you might pass out from heat stroke and bust your skull.) JK! LOL!
I'd go. Friends and scrappy fun? Whadderyouwaitinfor?

  16. Hi Okie, I just had to comment... Go, Go, Go! The San Marcos one in September just isn't big enough. Like Laurie said, there are all kinds of teas, libations and other cool things to drink and those hotels are so cold, I had to wear sweaters. Most of us Texas gals insist on having air conditioning in our trucks (I drive a 4x4 myself) so that we don't mess up our southern belle appearance ! I think you'll have a good time, really! Love your blog. You make me laugh out loud. Thanks for sharing with all of us.

  17. Freinds are such an important part of our life, you never know when it will all be taken away.
So I say get some eggs to go with that bacon and have yourself a hell of a time!!

  18. Go Okie---You will have a great time with your friends

  19. My friend and I try to make CKC and GASC each year, but somehow seem to only make one each time (as they keep scheduling GASC during graduation weekend). CKC is a bit smaller, but also friendlier. We really like the CKC crops better. And I have had to wear fuzzy socks and a hoodie at the crops when it was in downtown Houston. This year it's in a new location, but be prepared for cold indoors. And if you watch the specials, or book about 3 weeks out, you can fly Southwest for a good price.

  20. WOW! I See that everyone wants you to go! Well I'll be the voice of reason.... DON'T GO!!! It's tooo FREAKIN' HOT down there!! Are you crazy??? It's JULY and HOT!!! I LOVE bacon but HATE to cook it! LOL
Either way you look at it... it's gonna be HOT so if you are looking for something to do in the SUMMER go visit your friends... I mean how bad could it be.... Ok.... OK Let me re-phrase that! It will be stinkin' HOT and you may be uncomfortable BUT... You'll be with friends and maybe the heat won't bother you sooo much! :O) You might (dare I say it?) actually have an AWESOME time while you are there! Something to think about... :o)
