Distressed Flag SVG

I was playing around with the idea of making myself a 4th of July shirt this year to wear to the annual 4th of July party and posted a picture on Facebook of a file I made and there were some people who were interested in purchasing the file. I didn't want to just offer one little image and got to work on  designing several different ones. The patterns on the flags can best be described as distressed, wood grain and tattered.

I have to laugh a little because I had posted a picture of the original image in the Cricut Design Space group on Facebook and one lady commented that I should put it on Etsy for sale and some other woman came along and said "it's already on Etsy" and I told her that I was pretty sure there were a lot of files on Etsy but I had made mine. I think sometimes folks just doubt that people have the ability to make their own files.

If you are going to apply to a white shirt you can of course leave off the white layer. I did try to clean up the image and get rid of the tiny pieces so it would be easier to weed, it's never easy to weed a distressed file and when there are tiny pieces it sure makes it a pain!

If you would like to purchase this file you may do so and once purchased it is yours to do with what you wish, as long as you are not re-selling or sharing the file.

Waterlily 3D - FREE SVG FILE

One of the members in my Cricut Design Space Paper Crafting Facebook group asked if anyone had a 3D waterlily and since she wasn't able to find one I thought I would try and make one.

I had to tweak the file a few times to get it to assembly easily. The flower has 6 layers, 2 of 3 different sizes, a center and there is a lily pad that has two layers. I did the two layers on the lilypad to show veins in the lilypad. I always think details make all the difference.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
White cardstock
Green Cardstock, 2 different shades
Yellow Cardstock
Hot Glue Gun
Quilling Tool
Water or Glimmer Mist

Assembly Intructions:

1. I used a quilling took to wind up the center of the the flower but if you don't have a quilling tool you can use whatever is available to you, such as the end of a small paint brush. Run a line of glue along the bottom before winding the paper.

2. This one is simple, just glue the top layer of the lily pad to the bottom.

3. I used a hot glue gun to put the flower together. I find hot glue seems to work better when making 3D flowers. Spritz water on the flower layer so you can bend it easier. Bend the small tabs up toward the center of the flower, add a drop of hot glue to the large tab on the petal and then adhere to the petal making the flower round. Your flower layer will have a bit of a cone shape to it at this point. Repeat step with all layers.

4. Glue one of the large flower layers to the circle that is cut.

5. Glue the other large flower layer to the bottom layer, staggering the petals and then add the 2 medium layers and finish with the 2 small layers.

6. Add the yellow center with some hot glue and fluff out the fringes. If you don't like how your petals are shaped then just spritz them with a little water and shape as desired and allow to dry.

I am offering this file for free and all I ask is that if you download the file please leave a comment of thank you, much appreciated or some sort of acknowledgement.

Reindeer Ornaments - Vinyl and Paper

Last year I made some Snowman ornaments that had hats and they were such a big hit that this year I thought I'd try my hand at some reindeer ornaments!

I started working on this file before my carpal tunnel surgery (that will be another post) and I have just been able to finish it up in the last few days because of limited use of my left hand. I am really loving these cute reindeer and I think they will be a great addition to a Christmas tree.

Supplies Used:
3" plastic ornament
Brown Glitter
Polyacrylic
Vinyl - various colors
Cardstock - various colors
Hot Glue Gun

I used Make the Cut to design the elements and then exported the file as an SVG so I could upload it into Cricut Design Space for cutting.

One thing that irritates me about Design Space is that when I import an SVG I always have to make sure the file size is correct because it always imports larger than what the design is suppose to be. My work around that is to always include a base layer, 12x12 in this instance, so I can easily resize to the correct proportions.

On some other sets I made I used the Martha Stewart Branch punch and placed them where the holly is in the picture. I also used some red ribbon instead of cutting a paper ribbon. I think I might add some "snow" to the antlers and ears for the next set I make.

My carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand is going to be the first week in January and when I have that one done I will have to take off work because I will be a lot more limited to what I can do so I am hoping the sales on this file will help me get some bills paid in advance so I won't be stressing out about having the next surgery done.

If you would like to purchase this file you may do so and once purchased it is yours to do with what you wish, as long as you are not re-selling or sharing the file.

Ghiradelli Box with BONUS Candy Favors

It seems at Christmas time, and other holidays as well, we are rushing around trying to figure out cute little things to make to dress up simple things like candy to make it a little more special. One of my favorite things is a little box that holds those scrumptious delectable Ghiradelli Squares!

I have made these for Christmas and Valentine's day and they were always a hit. I try to watch after the holiday's for them to go on clearance so I can use them for the next holiday since they can be quite expensive.

These little boxes are quick to cut and decorate and are great for coworkers, friends, stocking stuffers, etc.

There are instructions out there for cutting these without a machine but why do that when we have perfectly great machines that can make the task so much faster and simpler, no measuring is always a good thing in my book!

In the Zip file I have also included the Lollipop Holder and Tic Tac Holder.

The lollipop holder is another fast and easy cut and they are just adorable! You can dress them up for any holiday by choosing different papers. They would also be great for birthday favors.

I have included 5 different decorative tops to choose from so the favor can be used for what ever occasion needed.

The Tic Tac holder does have a snowman cut but I also included a full cut blank cover so you can decorate anyway you wish. There are so many ways to decorate that I can't even list them all.

I ran red line tape along the middle of the cover and applied ribbon to keep the cover closed and then also used the red line tape down the spine to keep the Tic Tac box in place.

To purchase just click the "Buy Now" button and follow the directions that are listed below the buy now button.

4 files are included in this purchase and is downloaded as a Zip File.
  • 1 PDF file - instructions for assembling the Ghiradelli Box

Grinch Vinyl Quote

About 3 years ago my friend Karen wanted a vinyl quote with the Grinch. I can't remember now what she was going to use it for, or maybe she just wanted it for herself, and while she was here visiting I made the file and we cut it out.

I ended up using it myself and putting it in a frame and using it for a gift. It was one of those that took me awhile to get the font and placement right but I really liked the end results and I need to make one for myself! I have some Christmas pictures I do put up at Christmas, most of Santa but I think this one would be a nice addition to what I already have.
To purchase just click the "Buy Now" button and follow the directions that are listed below the buy now button.

Flourish Santa Layered - FREE FILE

I was browsing Facebook a few days ago and a lady was asking how she could get layers in the flourish Santa that has been around for a few years and since I wasn't doing anything I told her I would break it apart for her.

Well it took longer than I thought because I couldn't figure out the best way to have it layered so it would be easy to use with HTV (heat transfer vinyl) and then I decided the "knock out" method would be best so if one wanted to use glitter HTV and regular HTV for the image it could be done.

Here is a picture of the Santa with all the layers in place. I colored the beard grey for the picture so you could see it is a different layer than the hat and ball, which are not joined either so if you wanted to cut those out of different colors you could do that as well.

Here is a picuture of the layers apart. If you're new to this HTV thing you would press down your black and then just fill in the colors in any order you want. This keeps the image from being too thick and like I said if you want to use glitter HTV it is a lot easier this way. If color layers were solid those would have to go down first and it would be difficult to get the layers lined up.

I said I was starting to charge for my files but this one is free since it is not my original design.

Lighted Glass Block - Family Theme

I had a request for a lighted glass block and they were not very specific about what they wanted and just told me "oh do what ever you think will be good". I just love it when people give me such great ideas *okie looks out with deadpan look on her face* when they want something made.

I wanted to avoid personalizing it because I'm getting really tired of doing all the initials, split letters and names so I opted for a nice quote on the block. By the way, the block is not green but the background was green and it is giving it a green effect.

I used vinyl to cut out the background design and did the process of putting the whole layer of vinyl on the block and then weeded out from around the design. The reason I went this route is because it is easier for me to get the design centered.

This picture shows the background design a little better. I really like doing the blocks where most of it is frosted and there is a delicate design of plain glass, it just looks fancy to me. If you click on the picture it will make it bigger and you can see the detail better.

I used a string of 35 miniature lights for the inside and then to add just a little pizzazz I tied some black and silver glittery wired ribbon around the block and then just made a bow at the top.

If you would like to purchase this file you may do so and once purchased it is yours to do with what you wish, as long as you are not re-selling or sharing the file with others. The file has 3 layers, a layer with a square and the base design in it, another layer that is just the base design and then the top layer of the quote. If you going to use this for making a glass block you will need to measure your area and adjust the design accordingly. There is 4 squares that are registration marks to help you get the quote centered and once the quote is applied you remove the squares.

I "heart" Guns & Coffee Decal

One of my daughter's friends loves coffee and she loves guns. She had posted on her Facebook page about how she would love to have a decal out of a picture she posted and I told her "I can make that happen".

I went to work in Make The Cut and was able to design this decal. There is a white base layer and then the top green layer in the design. Once I posted it on Facebook I had some requests about the file and I had to inform a few people that I no longer give my files away.

BUT....

If you would like to purchase this file you may do so and once purchased it is yours to do with what you wish, as long as you are not re-selling the file I have no problem if you make them and sell the decals.

Price: 2.00

Snowman Ornaments with Hats and Gingerbread Bonus!

Last year after Christmas when I was in Houston I hit up a few Hobby Lobby's and bought a few packages of the 3.25" clear ornaments, there is 4 in a package, that everyone had been using to decorate so I could do some of the glitter ornaments that is all the rage. I really hadn't decided exactly what to do and I have done a few that are personalized. I had gotten some brown fine glitter a few weeks ago thinking I could do some Gingerbread ornaments and I also wanted to try my hand at some snowmen ornaments.

I  made a file for a Gingerbread face about a week ago and loved it and after that I decided to make some for snowmen but that wasn't good enough and I thought "They need hats!". After two days of designing and tweaking *okie thinks she really needs to get a degree in engineering or something to make this whole process go faster* I was able to get the files done.

I have already posted some pictures in a group on Facebook and got an overwhelming response about how much people loved the ornaments. For once I was pleased with my results, so many times I don't like what I make but ya know they say we are our own worst critics.

Since the hangers are covered by the hats I included a hole in the top of the hats so ribbon can be tied to the hanger and then threaded through the top of the hat. After I got the faces on I thought they looked a little plain so I decided to try some alcohol ink to put a blush on the cheeks and it worked! Just don't be heavy handed with the alcohol ink and if you have some alcohol blending solution it makes it easier to correct any mistakes, or an alcohol blender pen will help with any touch ups a well. I used one of those little triangle make up sponges and just a dot or two of ink and then pounced on paper before pouncing on the cheek area.

Decorating the hats was a lot of fun because there are so many options. The file does include a cut for a paper ban but I used ribbon instead. I also included some holly leaves in the file but for mine I used the Martha Stewart holly leaf punch and tree branch punch. The red "berries" are some hot fix embellishments, I believe from Imaginisce. On the lady hat I also added some hot fix rhinestones. The little silver embellishments are ribbon slides. I added some Sobo glue at the bottom edge of the hat so they would stay in place on the ornaments. Guys I can't tell you enough about how awesome this glue is for things that are hard to adhere!

Now about the Gingerbread bonus!

The brown glitter is some that I found at Hobby Lobby, not in the scrapbook department though. I am going to replace their mouths with some white vinyl so they show up better because with the brown glitter they are just too hard to see since they are so thin.

The girl Gingerbread man *okie thinks that just doesn't even sound right* I added some eye lashes so she would look more womanly, or girly, whichever you prefer. The ribbon is attached with Sobo glue but I think some redline tape would work just as well.

Putting on the squiggle outline can be a little tricky because of the spherical design of ornaments and I did have to trim a few areas because there are wrinkles after applying. While I feel like I am an adequate designer, I am not a genius in this area and wasn't able to make the file to avoid this. But hey, it's a free bonus!!

If you would like to purchase this file you may do so and once purchased it is yours to do with what you wish, as long as you are not re-selling or sharing the file.

  • 2 PDF files - 1 with basic instructions for the SVG files and the other that is a picture tutorial of how to assemble the hats.

Proud Son In Law - File Available

I haven't forgotten about this thing or been on a hiatus. Instead I have been going from one project to another and haven't had time to sit down and upload and edit pictures and write out posts but I'm going to try and catch up with posting my projects, some of which were quite time consuming!

As I scroll through Facebook there are always advertisements about t-shirts and say "order now" or "hurry" "while supplies last" and some of them are hilarious and of course I don't ever think about ordering since I have HTV and a heat press so when one particular t-shirt showed up I knew I was going to have to make it but tweak it just a tad bit.

Since I don't have a son but do have a son-in-law who may or may not think I am freaking awesome I still wanted to make him this t-shirt. I even told him I was going to make it and I didn't care if he wore it to work, as long as he wore it at least once. By the way, he does outdoor maintenance work so I knew the t-shirt would get ruined if he did wear it to work.

I changed the son to son-in-law, mom to mom-in-law, and the bought to made to customize for my use.

I did like how some of the words were box negatives and kept that idea and while weeding I forgot a few times that is what I was doing and I took out the little triangle of an A but luckily I was able to put it back in there. I finally decided to just work one area at a time instead of skipping around and that helped me focus on what I was suppose to weed where.

Here is a picture of my son-in-law wearing his shirt. I had to him put it on for a picture and figured that would be the end of that shirt but my daughter told me he did wear it when they went to a friends house for a get together *okie feels a tinge of pride* and I think has worn it another time as well. Years ago when Chuck first came to be in our lives I made a lot of things for him due to him playing football and he usually was the one to tell me what he wanted and where he wanted it. I guess you could say he is actually the reason I got into the whole HTV and heat press thing in the first place.

As always I am sharing the file for free *okie thinks most people slide by the donation button really quickly and act like they don't see it*.

Police Officer Quote - File Available

Ya know there are plenty of times when you are browsing through Facebook that you see something and you think to yourself "OMG! Self you need to make that" but you really don't have a reason or purpose for making such a thing you are looking at so you just toss it to the wayside.

When I saw this quote about police officers and their families while scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed I had that thought but I knew exactly who I could make it for. There is a young couple that my kids know, actually the wife was my daughters matron of honor and the husband played football with my son-in-law, and the husband is a member of the police force here in town and I just knew I had to make it for them. Having a degree in Criminal Justice also tends to make me have a very strong respect and love for officers of the law.

I messaged the wife and asked about what color frame and was glad when she said off white because I had picked up some of these frames at Wall's quite awhile ago and hadn't used any. They were actually for a retirement picture and had a bit of a shadow box look but I figured I could rip out the guts and use them for my own use, which obviously I did with this one. She also said she liked the burlap look of the original quote and luckily I had burlap. On a side note, thanks to my Aussie friend Janell I know know that burlap is called "hessian", so if you are ever on Jeopardy this information might come in handy.

The process of removing the guts and getting the burlap on there was a process. I tried several things, and I won't bore you with the details, and ended up just cutting the piece of burlap the size of the back of the frame and gluing it down.

In this picture you can see how there is room between the glass and the back of the frame where the burlap is glued and if you look at the bottom of the frame between the glass and burlap you will see a thin line of chipboard. In order to get the glass to stay in place I had to come up with something and since I don't have any glazier points handy and it was around midnight when I was working on this it was the best I could come up with. I think I cut about 4,827 *okie wonders if she might have just exaggerated a little bit there* strips of chipboard at 3/8 of an inch and then glued strips together until I got the thickness I needed, which oddly enough was about 3/8" of an inch as well. I used some Terrifically Tacky Tape on two sides of the strips, with one side going on the glass and the other on the lip of the frame, to hold it in place.

Since I have a number *okie is too lazy to walk to her craft closet and count them* of these frames I will be picking up some glazier points for future use.

While I probably could charge for this file I won't and offer it freely, I figure what's the difference since if someone wants it they can just do a trace of one of my pictures and make their own and it just saves someone time in the future if they want to make one *okie figures she has probably give thousands and thousands of dollars of cutting files away over the years for this very reason, plus she is too lazy to email people back and forth about such things*.

4th of July Banner - File Available

I am going off to Branson for a few days to teach my cousin and her friend how to make cards. My sister and my Aunt Betty will be making the trip with me and I am sure we will have a great time on the 5 hour drive as my family always has a fabulous time when we are together. Before I get going and will likely be out of pocket for a few days I wanted to get this project posted. Last month I had posted A Little Laminating Tip now I am going to show you what I was working on when I found out how to do a little fix when laminating.

It was really hard to get a good picture of the banner at full length since the finished project is probably around 9 feet long. It might look better if you click the picture and make it bigger. I had planned on making this last year for Andrea but a few things got in the way of me getting it done.

I used cardstock for the pennants and for the letters I used silver colored vinyl. I wasn't sure my laminator could take 4 layers of cardstock and it's probably a good thing I didn't since I did have some problems with the laminating sheets sticking together due to the thickness. I used 5mil laminating sheets and maybe if I had used a thinner sheet it might have worked without having to get out the heat gun.

In order to break up the wording I cut some star and put them between the words. I think they worked out well and I did think of several different things to try but the stars just seemed to work the best. The stars laminated easily since they are only one layer.

I think in this picture you can see the stitching I did on the pennant and that was done with a white gel pen. I'm not sure how well you can see the way I joined the pennants but it was rather simple. I used my Crop-O-Dile to punch holes and then used some Maya Road cord for tying them together.

If you would like to make a banner you can download the file below:

It Comes In Handy! Layout File Available

As many of you know I go through spurts of designing layouts and then I don't get around to using them until much later and the other night it sure came in handy! My Goddaughter Amber had asked if I would help her decorate two 4x6 pages for some kind of birthday scrapbook for one of Chi-O sister's birthday that she and the other girls would be doing and I told her I would help her. Of course in my mind I was wondering what kind of decorations could be used for a 4x6 scrapbook! I had forgotten about the project until Amber came by the night before she needed it, which she is famous for doing, and asked me about it. After she showed me some examples I told her that the pages were 12x12 and the pictures were 4x6 and her reply was "oh I didn't know, but whatever, it doesn't matter". *okie sighs in exasperation* Those who don't scrapbook just don't get it do they?!

Luckily I remembered the  Party Owl Night Long layout that I had designed back in 2013 that had an owl on it and talked about party so I quickly opened it up in Make The Cut and showed Amber and she said it would work just fine.

I was going to cut all the pieces and leave them for her to put it together but Amber gets distracted easily and isn't always the best on realizing how much time this stuff takes so I did go ahead and put it together for her and all she had to do was pick it up. Besides, the girl works two jobs right now and time is precious. I will give her props for helping me pick out the paper for the layout.

For the stars I just used a punch because it would be faster. After I looked at the picture I remembered she wanted both of them going portrait but OH WELL TOO LATE NOW and she never mentioned about it being turned wrong. The patterned papers are from Graphic 45 Mother Goose collection and the title is done in some Bazill Bling cardstock.

Since some may not know *and okie wonders why just the regular joe would know* the owl is the mascot of the Chi-Omega sorority and that is the reason I thought this would work for her purposes.

I added the ribbon along the bottom as an after thought because it just looked too dang plain without it for my taste and Amber wasn't here to tell me not to use it *okie cracks up laughing*. The yellow and red of the owl are also with Bazill bling cardstock.

Amber was pleased with the layout but she is really easy to please.

I am so glad I do a lot of designing of files because I never know when they are gonna come in handy!
