Waterlily 3D - FREE SVG FILE

One of the members in my Cricut Design Space Paper Crafting Facebook group asked if anyone had a 3D waterlily and since she wasn't able to find one I thought I would try and make one.


I had to tweak the file a few times to get it to assembly easily. The flower has 6 layers, 2 of 3 different sizes, a center and there is a lily pad that has two layers. I did the two layers on the lilypad to show veins in the lilypad. I always think details make all the difference.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
White cardstock
Green Cardstock, 2 different shades
Yellow Cardstock
Hot Glue Gun
Quilling Tool
Water or Glimmer Mist




Assembly Intructions:

1. I used a quilling took to wind up the center of the the flower but if you don't have a quilling tool you can use whatever is available to you, such as the end of a small paint brush. Run a line of glue along the bottom before winding the paper.

2. This one is simple, just glue the top layer of the lily pad to the bottom.

3. I used a hot glue gun to put the flower together. I find hot glue seems to work better when making 3D flowers. Spritz water on the flower layer so you can bend it easier. Bend the small tabs up toward the center of the flower, add a drop of hot glue to the large tab on the petal and then adhere to the petal making the flower round. Your flower layer will have a bit of a cone shape to it at this point. Repeat step with all layers.

4. Glue one of the large flower layers to the circle that is cut.

5. Glue the other large flower layer to the bottom layer, staggering the petals and then add the 2 medium layers and finish with the 2 small layers.

6. Add the yellow center with some hot glue and fluff out the fringes. If you don't like how your petals are shaped then just spritz them with a little water and shape as desired and allow to dry.

CTMH Flower Market - Altered Box

My friend Melanie of Courtney Lane Designs got a hold of me a few weeks ago and asked if I would like to review the new Cricut Flower Market cartridge and while I haven't used cartridges in several years I told her yes. Of course she knew she would get me by saying it had a lot of flowers and she knows I am a sucker for flowers, especially when they can be made into 3D projects and there are quite a few on this cartridge that are 3D cuts!

Once I got the package I was a little nervous about using a cartridge because it meant I would have to use Cricut Design Space exclusively, no designing in Make The Cut and then converting, just totally Design Space, which is something I NEVER do. It did take me a bit to get the feel of the program to do the design and I know with some more practice I might get the whole thing down but for now I am plucking my way through it. As I flipped through the handbook I found a rose and knew I wanted to try it. 

I had gotten some little boxes to alter at Zipp last month and decided to use one of those for a project that would hold greeting cards that I can give as a gift. I used Paper Studio Mirabelle paper for the project. The paper is about the weight of designer cardstock so it worked well with cutting the roses as well as covering the box. 

Here is a side view of the box so you can see the dimension of the flowers a little better and also how I added a flower to the side top of the box to make it the flowers look a little more cascading. 

A view of the top shows the different sizes I cut the flowers. The pink flowers had a lot of layers and I did cut them all but it ended up over shadowing the dimension of the roses and to prevent this I did minimal layering and then some with no layers. Candi dots were used for the flower centers.

I tied some burlap ribbon and some sheer ribbon to the handle and it worked well to finish off the look and design of the box.

On this close up you can see more detail of the roses. I have done flowers for years but I will say it makes it a lot easier with flower making tools and I use the McGill tools, which I have discussed in the past. I added some Glossy Accents for a dew drop look. 

I didn't do anything to the inside of the box since it won't be seen most of the time but I wanted to show you how the cards look in the box. I did have to slant them slightly to get them to fit but the box does shut and clasp with the cards in there.

Flower Making Made Simple....NOT!

I was skimming Facebook groups over the weekend and came across a post in a stamping group that I am in, think it is called Stamping Enablers or something like that, and some lady showed some flowers she had made and I immediately fell in love. She said something about Heartfelt Creations and I went immediately and found the website and started looking around. I signed up for the newsletter and they sent me a 25 minute video that showed how you could make like 5 different flowers with the same stamp and die set. Since I have quite a few Stampin Up flower stamp and punch sets I figured all I needed was a tool kit. The video made it all look so simple to make gorgeous flowers. 

I priced the tool kit on Heartfelt Creations and since I wasn't sure I would be able to do the techniques I got on Amazon and looked for a flower making tool kit. I came across the McGill Paper Blossom Took Kit and thought I would get it since it was cheaper and like I said I wasn't sure if I would even be able to pull off such gorgeous flowers like that were done in the video I watched. I pushed the buy button and quickly got my email saying my order had been placed and when I got my shipping notice it said I would receive my package on Wednesday. Much to my delight I got a text on Tuesday saying my package had arrived, a full day early, but I was out of town at the time at my aunts house and waiting to get home reminded me of how it felt on Christmas Eve waiting for my dad to get off work so we could open presents. Oh the anticipation!!

Sadly my first attempt looked like something that had been left in the rain for a few days. I know I did a sloppy job of coloring it. I actually tried to use my Stampin Up inks and a watercolor brush but the ink ran and I used Memento but then I remembered I usually use Stazon for this purpose. I was feeling a little discouraged at this point but it was late and I knew I couldn't give up on the tools and the lady in the video said it would take some practice. Little note on me, I don't like to practice...I like to do. I like to do and I like to do well. If I can't do well then I don't want to do at all. I decided to go to bed and work on it the next day when I got home from work.

After I got home from work yesterday and fixing me a t-bone steak for supper, my doctor told me to cut down on carbs and so that is all I had for supper but that is for another post, I decided to just practice using the ball tips and punched out just a plain flower and I did use some chalk ink to color it a bit so I could fool myself into thinking it wold look like a flower. When this one didn't turn out so well I decided to go back to the video and watch again. 

I stamped off some flowers using some Rhubarb Stalk Memento Ink on some dusty rose colored paper and punched them out so I would be ready to follow along with the video. I was more pleased with the results this time and felt a little more confident that maybe I didn't waste my $12.70 on the tool kit. 

I wanted to see how well a vellum flower would do and stamped and punched some out of the vellum.  In the video the lady had used white embossing powder on her flower and it was gorgeous but I was having a bit of lackadaisy attitude after a long day at work and because it was a practice flower I went the simple route. Most likely it would have turned out better had I not changed the type of flower I was trying to make half way through. I added a bit of Glimmer Glaze in the center of the flower to color it up a bit and since it was an experimental flower I might as well go all out and really experiment. 

For my final practice flower I resolved to take my time and think of this as a flower for a project. I stamped on white paper and used my ProMarkers to color the flower. I added some Perfect Pearls on the tips of the petals and for the center I cut it out of a flower I had stamped and then even did some little technique the video lady showed on small pieces. FINALLY! Once I got done with this flower and looked at it I realized I have a new love...FLOWER MAKING! The only problem now is that I want all the flower and die sets that Heartfelt Creations sells! Okay maybe not all but I would like to have a few. My trip to Florida is coming up and I need to save money for that so I won't be ordering any of those awesome kits until I get back so until the I will have to work with what I have on hand. I know I will need more practice but I a quite certain I will eventually get the hang of this and it will become a new obsession!

Precious - A Baby Girl Layout

My friend Carmen is working on some layouts and asked me last night what I had available and while I wanted to smack her upside the head because she should know by now what I have available for download I refrained *okie thinks that is only because Carmen is quite a distance out of arms reach* and went through my list of layouts on my blog with her. She did find some that she liked and downloaded although I'm not quite sure which ones. Since we were talking about some of my older layouts that are no longer available for download because they were done with Design Studio I thought I should do some more geared to baby girl ones because I still have some pictures of my daughter that I need to scrapbook.

I generally like to scrap more than one picture to a layout and I thought this design could easily be adapted for one or more pictures. I liked the idea of the simple title "precious" because that is exactly what baby girls are! I think this could easily be dressed up with some ribbon, maybe a butterfly or some tiny flowers to compliment the daisy cuts.

Maybe I can go through my daughters pictures this week and get this one done myself! But even if I don't I know Carmen will be surprised when she checks her Facebook this morning and sees this one available, especially since I actually designed it for her.

My Daughter Got Crafty

I came home the other night and there was a diaper cake sitting in my dining room. At first I thought my daughter might be trying to tell me something *okie won't mention that she almost fainted and fell to the floor at the original thought she had* but then remembered she mentioned she had a baby shower to go to and I figured she must have decided to get crafty.

Looking at her work I was rather impressed and didn't even know she knew how to make such a thing, later finding out that she learned how to do it, from her words "the internet". I noticed how nicely all the diapers were rolled nice and neatly the same size and how wonderfully all the items were placed in adorning the "cake".

As a life time crafter who has raised their child in a home where there was always some kind of craft being made, I have to say I did feel a little wash of pride flow through my body. When I first started paper crafting I had high hopes of my daughter and I crafting together. Now she will tell you "I can do all that stuff mom does" and I am quite sure she would give it a go but what she doesn't realize is that a lot of stuff that mom does comes with years of trial and error and a lot of patience, something my daughter seems to lack in most areas.

With that said, I do commend her staying with the project and finishing it, especially when she told me "I am never making another one of those! It took 3 hours to make that thing". Remember what I said about patience, or lack thereof HA HA HA.

As I examined the cake a little closer I started recognizing some things on the cake! She had used some of my paper flowers and brads!! I wasn't too concerned about the brads since she used simple ones but a few of the flowers were ones that were not cheap flowers. She told me she would pull them off and I told her "you can't, you hot glued them on there" and she said "no I didn't...I used your really good double sided sticky tape". I don't think she realizes paper flowers can be rather delicate! LOL After accepting that those flowers are now basically dead and gone to me I am still so proud of my daughter's handiwork!

Peach Festival - Layout

My friend Linda and I decided to spend a day at a craft show and then go over to a little town about 15 miles from here for the infamous Peach Festival. We were quite excited about the festival since neither of us have been. Our excitement quickly turned to disappointment as we didn't find one peach at the festival! Luckily we did stop at a fruit stand before the festival and Linda did get some peaches there.

There were a few vendors and Linda did get to hold a gun, which was rather frightening. Linda started feeling shaky and was able to get a chicken tamale. I don't like tamales, they look like they would be mushy in my mouth *okie cringes at the thought* so I opted to wait. There were a few other food vendors but all their lines were extremely long. 

Since I knew I would take my camera I designed a layout before hand. I know now that I will only need like one page to scrap this since there wasn't much to take pictures of, at least not that we saw. Even though the event was probably not layout worthy I thought I would post the file anyway.
