And now we lost Sebastian....

We had to have our Siamese Sebastian put down today. He had gotten weaker in the last couple of days and refused to eat. His wound was getting worse and we took him back to the vet and the blood work showed he had Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. The only thing we could do was to let him go to sleep so he would have no more pain or suffering.

We were able to go and say our goodbyes to "Momma's pretty boy". I let him know we loved him, but I know he knew that already. I also kept telling him that when he woke up he would be feeling all better and be able to play with Simon since Simon was waiting on him. Before he was given the sedative I was petting him and talking to him and he looked up at me and then laid his head in my hand as if to tell me "it's okay, I love you too".

Sebastian had a habit of claiming areas that were not his, but let us know he claimed it so therefore it was his! For instance, a Christmas present for my brother in law and the dining room table decorated for Christmas.

Our kitties were such a big part of our lives that even my BFF Karen never flinched about taking a nap in the recliner and being kept company by "the boys".

My daughter and I will miss them dearly and our hearts are breaking right now over our loss. I am trying to find comfort in knowing that they knew they were loved and adored and that neither is suffering anymore.

  12. I m so sorry Shirley! I have to tell you the only way I stopped crying with all 3 cats I have had is to go get a new one. I have had mine for 21, 19, and only 2years and each time I got a new kitten to make myself feel better.
I hope you and DD's hearts feel better soon.

  20. Oh I am so sorry to hear this and I am crying as well, I hate the thought of loosing pets and I hate it still when other people loose theirs. They are family, they are our babies and no matter how right it is and how much we know it happens its apart of life, it never gets easier.
You are right though, there's no pain or suffering now and he can run and play with his brother and all the kitty friends he'll make up there. and you'll always have great memories of him.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family!

so so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is. The first few weeks will be awful but it does get better with time. Today I still have trouble going into the vet's room where we had to put our dog down in. Remember the good times...

  26. So sorry to hear about your handsome Sebastian. I'm crying now. It breaks my heart that you are going thru this pain. I think it is time to go see Naomi, maybe that will cheer you up a little. Just remember all those cute and not so cute things they both did that drove you crazy. Just think, they are now running around doing the same in Heaven. The place will never be the same since the "boys are back in town".

It is so hard to let go of our "fur babies". Even though we know it is the best for them it is still the hardest thing in the world to do. Our old girl is almost 20 and getting more feeble every day and one day soon I am afraid we will have to make "the" decision. I dread that day.
You know that you are in our hearts and minds and in the tears we shed with you.

  30. I'm so sorry for your losses...two at once is even harder... maybe rescuing a new furbaby will help ease the pain... I'm sure your kitties wouldn't mind you finding someone to share all that love with... and a kitty is mighty cute and silly so that might get you to smile when you least want to... KC

  36. Oh Okie I'm so sorry I know how hard it is to lose more than one animal in a short time (we kept all of the puppies that our little Sassy had. So as they aged, we too lost many very close together.)A dear friend told me that the worst part of having pets is that they just don't live long enough. That is so true. My heart is aching for your family.

I was just having a talk (yelling) at my kitty about all the hair he has all over the house. Now I am going to sit down and let him get it all over me. Then I will get out the vac. I am so sorry for your loss.

  46. Shirley, these are just words and they can't replace your furbabies, but know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. It is so hard to let them go even when it is the best thing for them. I sat here and cried when I read your post. I hope you can find peace in the knowledge that your boys are together once again and are chasing mice up in heaven. Sending you hugs!

  47. Okie, So sorry to read of your losses. I can't stop crying, guess it was the trigger for the tears to start. Even though we know they are no longer suffering, the loss still hurts. Our fur babbies are so much a part of our families. In time it won't hurt as much and maybe you can find some fur babbies that are in need of a good home like yours.

    Take care my friend.

I am SO sorry to read of the loss of your two "fur babies".

I have one that is 22(Dancer) and one 12(Samantha) but have experienced the loss of three others over the years.

I still miss them as they are members of my family.

May you find comfort in the wonderful memories and knowing that you gave them a loving home.

Your pictures of them are wonderful.

  53. So So Sorry to hear of you loss. Our pets are like our children and to lose one is so heartbreaking. This past summer we lost our 17 year old huskey/eskimo spitz mix that had been in our family since he was 5 weeks old. He was a rescue dog that some people found tied up in a bag on the side of the road with his 5 brothers and sisters. I had to find comfort in the fact that although his life started out bad for him to live 17 years we must have given him a pretty good home. I will keep you in my prayers.
