I'm Switching Cardstocks

For years now I have sworn by Stampin Up's cardstock for my card bases and have been able to justify the price by reminding myself of the quality but now I will be switching cardstock.

Each year it seems SU raises the prices on their products and I know prices always go up but I am going to stop ordering the SU cardstock for my card bases and start using the Bazzill Smoothie cardstock. I placed an order the other day with Joann's because they had the Smoothie on sale for half price. I know it is a little thinner than the SU but I can live with it since the SU is now $8 for a pack of 24 and the Bazzill, when on sale which is often enough for me, is $3.75 for 25 sheets. I am talking the 8.5 x 11 by the way. The Smoothie cardstock comes in some great colors and you can check out the colors at BAZZILL BASICS.

I did find how to match the colors to what SU cardstock I already have by using the My Create Ink ColorMatch site. The cool thing about this site is that you can compare colors between Stampin Up, Close to My Heart, Bazzill, ProMarkers and Copic. Once I get my order I will compare the colors I got to the Stampin Up colors I have to see how well things match up and then I will also add them on the Excel sheet I talked about yesterday.

Bazzill also has some cardstock called Card Shoppe and it is more comparabe to Stampin Up but is a bit pricier. I was able to get quite a few packages of the Peanut Cluster cardstock at Zipp for $1.50 and of course I snatched up every package I found. I even shared a few packages with Carmen and Linda.

One of the main reasons for my switch is that I do a lot of cards with my groups at McCalls and it gets rather expensive using the Stampin Up cardstock and I have found that the Bazzill works just fine.

I'll keep ya posted on the colors when I get my order and how well it compares to the Stampin Up.

  3. Okie thank you sharing. I too have a love with SU cardstock and still have plenty. I have actually joined to be a demo 2x in the past just to stock up on paper, but I am going to look at this website for color matching and check out Bazzil. I do know it is thinner but I don't know what the exact weight is. Keep me posted.

  5. interesting. I will try but if it's like the Coodinations at Joann's you can keep it. That stuff sucks. I will fork out the money for SU. Thanks for keeping us up to date on the latest stuff. Kathy Wyatt

  6. I am a big fan of the card stock from www.papertreyink.com. Their quality and color matching is on par with Stamping Up, but you buy direct from their website rather than buy through a direct sales rep, so it is less expensive The basic cardstock is $5 for a 24 pack. However, I frequently use the Bazzill Basics as well. What do you use as a white cardstock for stamping? I don't really like the Bazzill for stamping, but I like it to be a little thinner to reduce the bulk. I am currently using Neenah Bright White Cardstock from Amazon. 75 Sheets for $5.

  7. I love Stampin Up paper too but too expensive for my bases. I get my card base card stock from Staples - 250 sheets of 110lb card stock for just under $20.00 Cdn. I can only get it in white or a light creamy yellow color but that's ok as it is just the base. I use other card stock occasionally but this is my go to card base.

  8. I too love SU cardstock, but don't buy it because of the price point. I will from time to time buy the Whisper White in the heavy version, but since then I've found the Paper Studio brand by Hobby Lobby in a heavy weight and I love it. I buy it when they have it for 50% off and it works perfectly for me! Yes, I still love the SU cardstock colors or Paper Trey Ink cardstock colors and once in a while will order a mixed pack of them. But very little once in a while. lol Hugs, Brenda

  11. I totally agree with you... I'm a HUGE supporter of SU Cardstock as my card base... But they keep raising the price! I know things go up.... BUT... Papertrey Ink has a Very good heavy weight cardstock as well... and guess what? their price NEVER changes!!! So, I've been ordering their basic cardstock and getting a way better price! 24 sheets for $5 or 50 sheets for only $9! Ummm.... no brainer.... the cardstock is a really nice heavy weight and the price is wayyy better than SU... it's a shame though.... cuz I've been buying SU products for years & years.... and yet other companies don't raise the price as much as they do on an annual basis... I hope you enjoy the Bazzill CS! :)

  13. I understand your decision. Plus, I like being able to look at the cardstock in person and buy right when I need it. I've used Bazzil for years.

  17. Ive used Bazzill for a very long time, I was lucky enough to have Scrapbooks etc. 2 miles from the house. Bazzill cuts like butter on my circuit and I love all the textures. Scrapbooks etc has closed its doors which is very sad and they sold bazzill a while ago. Thanks for providing a tool to be able to be a little more cost effective and still have great matches with my ink colors. I love all the research that you do on products and what gives you the best for your crafting dollars. keep up the great work that you do. Mindy
