Sewing Video Tutorial

I have had many questions asked about my Janome Sew-Mini and I have to tell you that I absolutely love it! I think it will be my favorite Mother's Day present ever from my daughter. I thought I would do a video tutorial on how to use it since there have been questions and also this way people can see it in action.

If you are afraid to sew on cards or scrapbook pages I hope this convinces you that it is easy to do and so worth it!

  1. I'd love to watch this but UTube wants to connect through my Google account and I don't want to link both together and there is no option.
    :(

  2. Oh no....I can't watch it. It says it's a private video:(

  3. Sorry about that. I had the video set to private and forgot to set it for public last night before going to bed. It is watchable now.

  4. It's working fine now! As usual, your "babbling" adds so much to the tone (you write just like you talk)!
I'll remember to drive a little slower and will put "sewing on cards" on my Bucket List!

  5. Who doesn't love a babbling Okie?!?! Oh wait...maybe that's a babbling brook that we are supposed to love.... hmmmmm

Thanks for the video! I've never heard of that brand of mini sewing machines. I've been wanting one that will be easy to transport to crops. Now I'm going to be on the hunt for a Janome!

  7. maybe it's a regional thing with the speed thing.....one town around here you don't go more than 5 over but, generally it seems people are not pulled over and ticketed unless they go 15+ miles over. Also, in Chicago it seems they are going 20+ over on the highway! :EEK!:
I enjoyed your video and was surprised that you didn't keep the needle down when turning your card to keep the lines straight. ok....maybe it's my Mother's is a perfectionist at her sewing. lol also, i thought the sewing would have been on a mat/card then applied to the cover to hide the stitches from the inside of the card. It was great to see how you sew on cards and your babble :) TFS! My Mother cringes on the thought of sewing on paper! lol

  14. I love my Janome Sew Mini ... I'm not much on sewing (even though I have a big sewing machine sitting and gathering dust) and the biggest problem I have is keeping my lines straight ... I'm getting better....I too wish the Janome had a speed setting or a pedal with more tension so you could control the speed ....Love the video and I love to hear you talk... I love all the details you add to your projects ....

  15. Thanks!!
I am too lazy to bring my big singer our... but you are making me want to!!

  16. Thanks so much for doing this video. I have a big machine and lots of settings that I forget how to use. One tip I read was to use clear thread in the bobbin. That way you don't have to keep changing to match it up. I thought that was a great idea. I have to get my machine out and give it a try.
    Thanks again Okie!

  17. Okie, love the video and your ladybug ATG. I have the same feelings about my voice, but the opposite direction. People always think that I'm my 11 year old daughter when I answer the phone. It does come in handy for solicitors though!

  19. Great video! I have this sewing machine and have yet to actually use it on cards. (I've hemmed jeans with it though.)

  20. Thanks for the video! I'll have to give this a try - though I'm a bit afraid to try with my Kenmore. Do I need to buy a separate machine for my card making and keep my regular sewing machine for sewing?

  21. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I am one that has been scared to sew on my cards and you really did make it look so easy!! Do you use a special needle or size of needle or will any do?

  22. Thank you for doing this video!! I have a little sewing machine that DH got me but I haven't used it yet. I will now that I know how easy it is!! :)

  23. Thanks for this video...I've been eyeing a cute litte hand-held sewing "machine" for making scrapbook pages, but I thought it'd be too hard...it doesn't look so bad!

Oh, and in Massachusetts, you can drive 10 miles over the speed limit without getting stopped. :-)

  24. Love the video!!! They are a lot of work and you are so good at it. Thanks for sharing :) Sewing on page layout is so much fun.

  26. Okie, you are amazing GF. I can't believe that you had a camera right in your face, had to worm your arms through the legs of your tripod to reach your card and sewing machine, yet were still able to demo your sewing ... and somehow manage to keep your lines straight too!!!

GF ... you can do it all!!! =)

It looks like a sturdy little machine.

  30. Love your video. Gonna be on the lookout for this too... you should get commission from them!!!

Love your babbling! Tell your cousin that you know an "old lady" who has lived by the 5 mile over for a lot of years and so far so good! LOL!!!

  31. Sparksgal---my sewing machine dealer told me that if I'm going to sew on paper using my Pfaff to be sure I keep it cleaned out.

You're only sewing a little bit on a card or layout, so you should be fine. I keep a can of compressed air nearby to blow the lint out of my bobbin casing.

I think the stitching really adds a lot to the front of cards! Now if I'd just remember to do it on more of mine! LOL!

    Thanks :)

  35. Great video, Okie! I really want to start sewing on my layouts, but I'm just too lazy to break out my BROTHER machine...I don't have a craft room, so I have to put everything away when I'm done and that just takes all the fun out of it! LOL

Love your little commentary...it's fun! My hubby's a cop and he doesn't stop "soccer mom" types...so I think you'll be fine as long as you're not jutting in and out of traffic :) lol

  36. Thanks for sharing! I have a big scary computerized sewing machine that I got a few years ago & have never used! Maybe I'll try it on a card for my first project.

  40. Hey Okie, it's been awhile since I came for a visit, but I wanted to see your sewing video. Great video! Also, I'm happy I found someone who says 'crap' as often as I do! lol We recently had to replace our computer and I hooked up the new one, as my honey is not comfy with electrical hook ups. When we got home with it, he said he guessed he'd be hearing "Oh Crap!" a lot. Later he came into the room and said, I didn't think you'd be up and running yet. I didn't hear any oh craps! lol. If you want to delete this post I'm fine with it. I just thought it was funny and had to share!

  45. Thanks for the vidio. Just a hint for everyone. Leave the needle down when you turn a corner and it makes for a better, neater turn, no loose threads at the corners.

    Have fun.
