Martha Stewart and Cricut Cake...

WHAT?? Yep, it's true. If you would like to read the official press release then just click HERE. It is in a Microsoft Word document so you might need that program to read it. But you might not *okie thinks she might need to learn a little more about computers*.

Ol' Martha got her fingers into Provocraft. I wonder if she has kicked EKSuccess to the curb now that she is collaborating with Provocraft. I personally really like a lot of EKSuccess tools and have quite a few of their punches. Oh yeah but this is about Martha and the Cricut Cake. Anywho, I posted about Martha not long ago about how she can tell me I can grow my own salad, butcher my own sheep, gather my own eggs and sew my own tablecloth all before my dinner party at 6pm for 30 guests. I guess now she is going to tell me I can make a 3 tier cake for the event also and have it elegantly decorate....*in her best Martha voice okie says* It's a good thing! So she says with her small army of staff! I just wonder how many times she will actually use the Cricut Cake machine and how much she knows about the cartridges available. I am kind of excited to see what her carts will look like since I do like some of the designs she has done. Her small butterfly punch is one of my favorites! However, I won't be getting them since they are exclusive to HSN. The debut is set for July 19th.

Here is a picture of the new Cricut Cake. Instead of red it is white this time. I have mixed emotions about the Cricut Cake. Although I haven't done so in quite some time I was a trained professional cake decorator and I believe this kind of decoration takes out the creativity and expertise of cake decorating. If you ever had to pipe out drapes of strings on a cake you would know what I am talking about. It ain't easy *okie remembers many fine strings breaking sending okie into fits of cussing like a sailor*. But with that said I think it is great for people who want to make and decorate their own cakes.

So tell me my darling readers *okie looks to see if anyone is actually out there and listening* what do you think about this?

  1. Okie girl, you need to go check out her carts...they are at the Cricut site. The Basics looks like it has a lot of similar cuts to her border punches. They look like nice carts... probably will have a nice price, too.

  2. As I read your Headline to hubby, he said, "Oh my Goodness, please tell me your aren't going to start making curtains with your cricut!" (-:

Gotta give her credit, she can smell which side of the bread the money is on!

  3. Yes Okie, we are listening. I think it's great news, I won't be buying the cake either, but I'm hoping she comes out with some edge designs on her carts. like her punches. I would use it for scrapbook layouts. Shari (cricutrookie)

  4. I personally don't like Martha in anything she does. She is a cheat and lier! So when it comes to products she "makes" I steer clear. I can't believe Provocraft fell into her trap!

  5. Listening Okie. Always read all your post. I don't think I will be getting the cake machine. As for Martha...she runs to money. I am so glad that you point out that she has an ARMY working for her. I always try to explain that to people and they seem dumb founded. There are people out there that thinks she does it all herself. I doubt that she does much of anything herself. I know someone who used to work for her and to quote her exact words she said Martha is an "evil demanding witch". I am kinda of disgusted with provocraft and their decisions on partnership and exclusive only stores. I am really UPSET that they partnered with Walmart to be the only store to carry cricut lite carts. I don't get it. Okie why do you say u wont buy the new carts that will only be on HSN (just curious)?
Okay, that was a long response..but wanted to be thorough when answering your question:)

  7. Martha does have an army and I always try to keep that in mind when I see what she's up to. If I don't it makes me crazy feeling so inferior... ;)
I don't like everything she does but her team is talented and I find inspiration at times. I just pick and choose.
As for the Cricut Cake stuff-- nope, not for me. I have enough toys that I haven't mastered...LOL
I know y'all can relate to that.

  8. I am out here listening. I am getting a little upset with Provocraft having limited edition machines bundled with exclusive carts and then to top it off have it exclusive to HSN or Walmart, etc. I too am to cheap to buy it on HSN. I have purchased one Lite cart and have one more I want to buy and then I will not buy anymore until they come down in price, and since there is no competition for Walmart, they will not be coming down. I don't mind that they partnered with Martha Steward because I really want a border type cart, but it is probably exclusive with the machine so I will not be getting it.

  9. I like the "MS" style ~ remember she has final say in whatever comes with her name on it regardless of whether she designed it or not. That said - I have never let myself feel inferior to her but do take advantage of all of "her" (and I say that lightly) ideas and incorporate them into my life and designs when I can. I won't be getting the cricut cake because, quite frankly, I don't have time! When making cakes, keeping it simple is a "good thing" for me.

  10. It so refreshing to see that not everyone loves Martha. I can take her or leave her. I feel your thoughts on Martha are right on target. Having a team to tend the chickens, collect the eggs and fry them up makes it pretty easy to have fresh eggs all the time. I always think it is funny when she is working on a project on her show and has problems because you know she has never made it before. I do like her punches and the one cart has a lot of my favorites. I would think they will show up other places than HSN. I hope they will. Thanks for keeping it real Okie!

  12. I really enjoy reading your blog. You always make me smile so THANK YOU!!!! I won't be getting a cake either and her cartridges are okay but nothing that I feel that I have to have. Thanks for sharing and the inspiration!!!!

  13. I prolly won't buy the cake machine, but those carts have some AWESOME accents on them. I love all her border stamps, and it appears that the cartridges have some great borders on them...I MAY have to shell out some cash for those! LOL! Yeah yeah - I know, I have SCAL and can prolly recreate them with that - but I'm lazy and can't create new files with SCAL to save my life! If I can get a cartridge to do it, I'm happy!!

  14. Well, you know how I feel about Martha. She won't make a dime off of me.

As for your blog, DON'T CHANGE the way you do it. Your's is truly one I know I can go to for crafting, not commercialism. I know I badger you, but it's only because I'm an Okie Junkie!!

  15. I have to say that Martha is a BUSINESS woman, and despite the fact that her Product implies blissful perfection and absence of any mistakes (which makes us real people cringe: perhaps because we all aspire to it?), she does her business well, she knows what will bring her the money, and I only wish I was as savvy and well connected as she, sans the greed and jail stay of course!

  16. Personally not a fan of Martha BUT... I like the carts because I am not a professional cake decorator and having the cake has allowed me to make great looking cakes without much know how or skill. I watched a bunch of You_Tube videos, got the cake and off I went. I still prefer to leave the momentous occassions up to the professionals but for home and family casual stuff...I am really enjoying it.

  17. Not real sure why they had to have a new machine. Why not just MS carts???? Anyhoo...I dont mind Martha but shocked that there are people out there that think she does it all by herself. Love your blog, thanks for posting.

  18. Oakie Love the fact that Martha is doing some cricut! But being it is exclusive ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh I do not like that at all. I would love to have the carts but hsn will have to come down on the price I am a cheapo to lol

  19. I like that the Martha machine is not red, but I still don't think I'm going to buy one & I don't like that the carts are exclusive to HSN because I won't pay that much.

I teach cake decorating & once I was telling about a design I saw that Martha did & someone corrected me & said Martha didn't do it, her minions did. But whether or not she does it, I do like the style of a lot of her products.

  20. Okie

You are too funny. LOVE your blog.
I am cheap too, won't be getting a cricut cake machine anytime soon. I am still saving up for an expression! LOL!
