Inventory and Organization - Embossing Folders

Today's organization topic is embossing folders! So many of us love to use the crafty goodness of embossing folders but there is always the issue of how to store, how to find and knowing what we have! A few years ago I decided to make a cutting file for my folders so I could organize them easily and just last week I decided I needed an inventory. Luckily I haven't ever purchased one I already had but I have benefited from some generous people who did buy duplicates and were kind enough to send me the extra they had purchased *okie is always humbled and grateful for people's generosity*.

The screenshot of the inventory list shows how I do have them broken into different categories. I have all my A2 and 5x7 folders in a list together and if it was a set, such as Honeycomb, I have them in the main list and then labeled it in the C column. Since I have several different brand of folders I added that in the D column since so many companies have folders that are the same theme.

You can download the inventory list, Embossing Folder Inventory XLSX and edit for your own use, and once again you will need Microsoft Excel to use the list.

Here is a picture of my folders. I keep them in a drawer in my Ikea Expedit unit and in the picture the drawer was pulled out so I could get them organized. Instead of using my lovely cardstock to make the file folders for them I pick up file folders from Dollar Tree, they come 10 to a pack, and make the folders out of them. If you don't mind the crease of the folder being on one of your folders you can get 3 out of one file folder *okie wonders if that even just made any sense*. In this picture my 5x7 folders haven't been completed yet but they are now.

I have reposted this many times and will once again post the link, if you would like to make the folder you can download the cutting file in either MTC or SVG format at this location - EMBOSSING FOLDER STORAGE.

I also wanted to show you why I make a "folder" for the folder. As you can see in the picture I actually emboss the folder so I can easily see what the pattern is when paper is embossed with the specific folder. Sometimes it is hard to tell what the pattern might look like and now I can easily see the design and not have to second guess if I might want to use that pattern.

So there ya go...now you have no reason not to get your embossing folders organized and inventoried! I think this will be the last of my posts with inventory lists for a little while. I go through spurts of getting organized and I think I'm done with this spurt...but then again who knows I might just decide to get my craft closet organized!

  1. I also put mine into folders using your pattern but used cardstock. Probably should have used file folders, probably would last longer. I did not emboss each folder though, good idea, guess I will have to do that next. Thank you for sharing the cut file for the folders.
    Have a great crafty day!

  2. I have always loved how you organized your embossing folders Shirley, it really does help to have the embossing on the folder you store the EF in. Now the spread sheet just finishes it off perfectly. Hugs, Brenda

  4. Shirley, thanks so much for reposting the svg file for the embossing foldlers. I, too, am in the process of reorganizing and have some of my embossing folders in your folders but I "lost" the file in cyberspace somewhere (probably when my computer crashed) so haven't been able to make any new ones.Your idea of embossing the front of the folder is pure genius. Also, I downloaded your file for the cricut cartridges (you posted this one a long time ago) and lost this one. as well. when the ol' computer crashed. I don't store mine in the plastics oranizers that you do, but in an IKEA filing drawer that is the perfect fit. They all sit in the drawer and are at my finger tips. There are six drawers in this cabinet so I keep all of the cricut expression and explore supplies in the top ones and the cartridges in the lower ones. If you get a chance could you post this one too. Now that I think about it, I think you designed it in the old cricut design program. Do you think I would be able to use it with the new Design Space? If it would be easier for you to just email me with the file, my email address is coolnana72 at hotmail dot com. Thanks so much. Always enjoy your posts of crafting and just life in general. I, too, was a single mom (both kids grown now with kids of their own) so can relate with some of the things you have posted. Crafting was "my escape" when the kids were growing up and crafting is still part of my life that I now share with my grandkids.
    Take care, Carole.

    1. The SVG file for the little cart box can be found if you either search "cricut cart box" or scroll down and on the right hand side there is a list of labels or tags of what a post is about and look for "cricut cart box" there. I'm glad someone uses the chit I post LOL

  5. I keep all of my supplies on Excel worksheets too. I haven't bought duplicates since I did this. I use to carry printed copies of these worksheets in my purse so that I had them with me just in case I came across a "good deal", but now I have them stored in Drop Box and can just bring them up on my IPhone or IPad. Oh the miracles of modern technology :)

    1. I'll have to see if I can access my Google drive from my phone and open the file! What excellent information!
