L.A.'s Totally Awesome - A Little Too Awesome

I have been using some of the LA's Totally Awesome products for awhile now and pick them up at the Dollar Tree. I really love their laundry pre-treater and don't think anything else holds a candle to the performance. I also get their degreaser and bleach cleaner. I had told a friend of mine about the cleaners and she wanted to try it. She told me she even used the laundry one on her cabinets and how well it cleaned those as well.

I decided to try some of the laundry pre-treater on my cabinets. I sprayed a little on the door around the handle, where cabinets tend to get the grubbiest and scrubbed with a scrubby and immediately I could notice the difference. I should tell you it was late evening and I didn't have the light on while I was doing this. I couldn't believe how clean the corner of my cabinet was looking! I wondered if it would clean all of the cabinets so I sprayed a little on the edge of the cabinet and started scrubbing and again I was amazed at how clean it was looking and how awesome this stuff really is!

For some reason I decided I should turn on the kitchen light and see how it was looking and to my horror this is what I saw! Was the cabinet cleaned? Well in a sense it cleaned off the dirt...in the sense that it striped off the stain! It cleaned a little too awesome!

Now I am left with a cabinet corner that looks nice and clean, at least that is what I am going to call it, but with the dilemma of what to do about this situation!  I did tell my landlord about it and he didn't seem too amused. I did tell him I would buy more of the pre-treater and do the rest of the cabinets, it really didn't take much elbow grease at all and while it might be time consuming it wouldn't be hard work. He told me to wait and see what he could do.

This can go down as one of the big "OOPS" moments of my life!

  3. OOOPS!!!! Okie, I did the very same thing years ago on an old headboard My MIL gave me. But it only did it where the dirt ( from FIL hair was. It didn't take the finish off where it didn't have the dirt though. My husband said that it was probably because the dirt was into the finish and when it cleaned the dirt and greasy prints off it also cleaned the finish off .

  4. As a kid I decided to help my mother by washing the door to our bedroom and the door facing with 409 cleaner. I had no idea that she'd painted the woodwork with water based paint. We had a nice "distressed" door when I got through. lol!

  6. Hmmm, maybe that was the original color and the rest is just buildup over the years???...lol. I am going to test it on my cabinets. It would sure be an improvement and it surely couldn't hurt them...lol. I am hoping it will save me some money in replacement costs.

  7. OOOPS! I am sure glad I read the entire post ... you had me ready to run out and buy this stuff to clean my cabinets too. With my luck, the finish would be removed and I would not only end stripping off the finish, but I'd end up restaining it too. I have a large kitchen and two walls are full capinets (upper and lower with counter in the middle). That is just way more work than I really want to do. Although I have to admit that it sure does look nice! And like the others before me have already said ... I kind of like the lighter color better too.

  8. Many years ago, we somehow ended up with a felt tip marker in with a load of double knit clothes (does that date me?). We washed them a second time and the stains were still there, so we treated them all with Fantastic cleaner and it removed every one of the marks. My mother insisted that I write a letter to the company and they responded with something like, we are glad you got good results, but that is not what the product was intended to do.

    1. OMG! Their response was hilarious! Maybe they are the makers of a stain remover and it is more expensive and didn't want others to buy the cheaper product for the same purpose LOL.
