Just Because Cards....Melon

Just Because Cards....HOW COOL IS THIS CART?? I recent acquired it and after being sick for a week I decided I needed to do something creative so I made this Thanks A Melon card. The paper is Stampin up...all of it! LOL The patterned paper is from the Raspberry Tart pack that has been discontinued. I did some sewing on the card *okie is so glad her machine is working again* and I really like the effect it gave. I think the card might be a little busy but over all I like it!

I debated about making the melon with patterned paper and then decided to live on the edge and JUST DO IT! HA HA HA

I am not too happy with the green scallop frame, but I ain't redoing it now!

Here you can see more detail, and of course you can click on the pictures if you like if you want them bigger. I pop dotted the melon and also the sentiment. The rhinestones are some hot fix ones I got off eBay *okie is totally addicted to eBay and has been for almost 10 years now...if not 10!*

Sweet Treats Thursday - Cupcake Theme

Happy Sweet Treats Thursday bloggies!! This week's theme at Cuttlebug Challenge is Cupcakes. Yes you heard me...cupcakes, those small sweet cake confections. My fellow designers for the Cuttlebug Challenge Blog have whipped up some great projects to share with you also, so make sure you check out their projects also for some sweet inspiration.

My project is for miniature cupcakes that can be packaged up for that special friend, family member or for even just treating yourself! I also made a cupcake shaped card that fits in an A2 gusset envelope. I do have .cut files available for the CUPCAKE CARD WITH TAG and MINI-CUPCAKE BOXES.

Of course presentation is key so I did use some film to wrap the box up in to keep the cupcake fresh, but not like it will last long enough to need the packaging for freshness.





Here is a close up of the cupcake shaped card. Supplies used:

The card base is a cut included on Sweet Treats so even if you don't have Design Studio you can still make this super cute card. For the .cut file all mats are labeled and cuts are included.

I made several boxes because they were just so fun to make and decorate! Supplies used:

Two Easter cards

made with some scraps! I had some scraps laying on my table tonight and decided to make a few cards with them. I made these two quick cards.

The patterned paper is DCWV. I did use some Mica for the cards. The eggs on the card on the left are made with an oval punch and the flowers on the card on the right are also made with a punch.

I did decorate the eggs up a little with a white gel pen and some Diamond Stickles.

Happy "BEE"lated Birthday

My friend Naomi asked me this past weekend if I had a belated birthday card she could have. I told her I wasn't sure but I could make her one. I started to use the Cricut but then remembered this cute bee stamp I had and thought I would use it. The sentiment is computer generated.

I used two different size scallop circle punches for the bee. I stamped the bee twice and then cut the body out and pop dotted it on top of the bottom layer bee. The paper is Cosmo Cricket, I believe Girl Friday *okie tries to remember if that is correct and then just shrugs shoulders*.

The card would have been a fairly quick one if I hadn't been trying to talk on the phone, cook supper, check on my zoo, read Facebook, check the Cricut messageboard and watch TV *okie is so impressed with her ability to multi-task*.

Cowgirl Up - A Layout Using Old West

This is one of the layouts I did at the Swarm back in January. I forgot I hadn't posted a picture of it. I borrowed the Old West cartridge from my friend Linda, before she even had a chance to use it, so I could do the layout because I didn't have the cart yet *okie noticed Linda trying to hold on tight to the cart but okie had a good strong grip and gave a forceful tug to get it out of Linda's hands*. I do own Old West now and think it is a great cart! Maybe it is because I live in cowboy land! Click the pictures if you want to see up close detail













The paper is some I got at the LSS that closed down over a year ago. I saw the paper and knew I wanted to use it for something and then when my daughter went horseback riding at Thanksgiving I knew I could finally use the paper! The horse in the bottom of the right hand corner of the 2nd page is from the paper. I cut it out and then pop dotted it over the print of the same horse print on the paper, that is why the swirls match up. I went over some of the swirls with some Glossy Dimensions.

The title cut, beige horse, saddle and concho are all cuts from Old West. I used a lot of brads on the pictures but I thought they complimented the layout. I chose to use a silver gel pen for the faux stitching to match the brads. I used the Paisley Cuttlebug folder to emboss the title circle.

If you guys haven't checked out the Old West cartridge you should really give it a look if you have any western themed layouts or cards to do...IT IS FANTASTIC!

3 Sunflower Birthday Card

I can't seem to get enough of the Sweet Treats cartridge! I was poking around the cartridge in Design Studio and came across a flower that looked like a sunflower. I remembered I had some sunflower paper left and decided to use it to make a birthday card. Of course it was going to be a simple fast card.......yeah right! *okie often fools herself into thinking things will be fast and simple* I decided to sew, then my sewing machine started messing up. I spent over an hour looking for the manual so I could oil the machine, and never did find it! I oiled it as best as I could remember so I could at least finish the card. I had planned on sewing the ribbon on but that didn't happen *okie sighs and rolls eyes*.

The 3 SUNFLOWER BIRTHDAY card is made with the Sweet Treats cartridge. The cut file is set to cut 4 cards at a time. The card I made is a 5.5" x 5.5" square. I bet you guys haven't noticed I have been into doing square cards lately! HA HA HA *okie just totally cracks herself up*

I used Prism and Bazzill cardstock and the printed paper is by Pinecone Press. The flowers are done with the Cuttlebug folders Swiss Dots on the petals and D'Vine Swirls on the centers.

The center flower and sentiment are pop dotted. I looped 3/8" grosgrain ribbon for the leaves and also used it for the stems.

I got the Serenade cartridge when I got my red E but hadn't used it yet. I kept wanting to but just not sure what I wanted to do. I decided to make a simple card so I could at least say I used it! So...I made the YOU'RE SO TWEET card. My card is a 5.5 x 5.5" square and is set to cut 4. It doesn't cut the mat or the base, just the elements.

More Stamp Club Challenge cards!!

I have been able to get four more cards done for the Stamp Club Challenge *<---- okie points to the link in case someone has missed what is going on with these cards* and I still have enough stuff to do some more, but I think I am running out of ideas at this point!

On these first two cards I used the sentiments from my Stampin Up stamp set Whimsical words. I really adore this set, it has great sentiments! The cards are 5.5 x 5.5", and of course will require extra postage but that is okay since they will probably go in my card box to never be seen again! I can't remember what the patterned paper is but it is some I got probably two years ago because I loved the colors but just hadn't used it yet. The sentiment blocks are what are from the Stamp Club challenge papers.


I used some Just Rite stamps for the card on the left and Stampin Up's Just Jawin for the one on the right. Again the big blocks are what is from the Stamp Club papers. I think I am going to like my Just Rite stamps! I know I can do things in Microsoft word for circles but I can't do the borders and that is what I really like.

Sweet Treats Thursday - Easter layout

Happy Sweet Treats Thursday bloggies!! This week's theme at Cuttlebug Challenge is Easter. Make sure to bunny hop on over to Cuttlebug Challenge Blog and enter to win the Heritage cartridge!! I had some Easter pictures I hadn't scrapbooked yet so I decided to do an EASTER 2 PAGE LAYOUT for my project. The cut file cuts all the embellishments and title for you however you will have to decorate your own eggs!

Supplies used -

Cricut cartridges: Stretch Your Imagination, My Community, George, Everyday Paperdolls, Lyrical Letters, From My Kitchen

Paper: DCWV Spring Glitter Stack, Prism
Flowers: Prima
Gel Pens
Cuttlebug and various embossing folders

I did some stitching on the title letters. I ran the eggs through the Cuttlebug in various folders and then decorated with gel pens. I added crystals to the flowers for some sparkle. For the bunny I cut it 3 times, with one layer having the hide contour feature being used so I could color where his eyes needed to be. I flocked one layer by running it through my Xyron upside down and then applying white flock. I added glue and used pink flock for his ear. His tail was cut from the last layer and flocked with pink also. For his cheeks I dabbed my finger on a Rouge Cat Eye Chalk Ink pad and patted on his cheeks.

Cupcake with Tag

I am still lovin the Sweet Treats cartridge! I found this Karen Foster paper and knew I could use it to make some cards with my Sweet Treats. I looked at the cakes and cupcakes and decided to use this cupcake cut to make the CUPCAKE WITH TAG birthday card. The cut file is set to cut 6 at a time.

The tag on my card is done with Stampin Up punches but I do have the cut for the tag included in the cut file for the card. The stamp is one from Stampin Up Teeny Tiny Wishes set.

I used 1/4" and 7/8" ribbon behind the cupcake but I did include a cut for those if you don't have that size ribbon or you would rather use paper. The mat is cut at 4" x 5.25". I used the sewing machine for around the mat and down the middle of the ribbon.

D'Vine Swirls Cuttlebug folder was used on the Cupcake layer for the swirl effect. I used Glossy Dimensions on the cherry. The gold dots on the cupcake holder are iron on studs.

How to Make Your Own Pop Dots

Dimension is the name of the game in my cards and layouts. That means a lot of dimensional dots, foam, or whatever you want to call it. That stuff is NOT cheap *however okie is...but she ain't easy...well okay maybe after a few drinks okie might be a little easy, but that's a whole notha post*.

I started buying mounting foam last year so I could cut my own and it was cheaper than buying sheets. The only problem was that it stuck to my scissor something terrible so I came up with the idea of placing the foam on paper that stickers came on so I could cut my own without having to cut each one individually. I shared this idea with my friend and partner in crime, Linda, who in turn posted it on the Cricut messageboard. I had requests for a video how to so here it is........

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN POP DOTS




********UPDATE*********

I have had questions about the foam tape being acid free. I don't know if what I used is acid free but I do know that the Scotch Mounting foam is acid free. Since I don't use it directly on a photo I don't worry about it being acid free. Hope that helps! :)

Also, my friend Linda said Freezer paper does NOT work. The mounting foam sticks to it.

Stamp Club Challenge - Card #5

And now I present card number 5 of the Stamp Club Challenge! *okie does a Vanna White arm and hand motion in front of the card* For this lovely gem the papers for the challenge are the circle and the black stripe in the middle. Candy wrapper foil was once again used. I stamped the image on acetate and then pop dotted it on top of the foil. The stamp is from a hostess set I got at my Stampin Up party *okie thinks she is getting good use out of her hostess set*. I guess I need to practice stamping with this one since I have some parts of the image that didn't stamp.

The scallop border is the Stampin Up Scallop Border punch. The brads are some that I glittered myself with doodlebug glitter. Oh yes, the lined patterned paper from the DCWV Black and White stack.

On the close up photo you can see where the mounting foam is placed. I did cut it into small pieces so I could hide it behind the stamped image. In order to get the image to fit in the circle I laid my acetate down on top of the circle and then used a black permanent marker to draw on the inside line. I then cut on the inside of the marked circle. The foil was applied to some plain cardstock and then I laid the acetate on top of it and cut around so it would be the same size.

Okie dokie Pinocchio's *in no way is okie calling her bloggies liars she just thinks Pinocchio rhymes with okie dokie and says it a lot* this is all until I get back to my table and pull out the paper and get creative again!

Stamp Club Challenge - Card #4

*In her best game show host voice okie says* And welcome to card number 4 for the Stamp Club Challenge! For today's card we have chosen to go with picturesque type card *okie wonders if she is impressing her bloggies yet with her wonderful game show host voice*. If you are just now tuning in you might want to go through our previous episodes.......er.....posts and get up to date on what our lovely host okie has been doing for the last few days.

*okie falls out of her chair laughing* Okay seriously folks here is the info about the card! The only part that is from the papers given for the challenge is the black stripe I used for the road. And before my friend Linda calls me and says "HEY THAT WAS MY IDEA"....let me say this, my friend Linda gave me the idea LOL. When we were given the papers she held up the 12x12 sheet of this one and said "what do you see" and I told her "a road or a elementary blackboard". We both have the Loads of Love stamp set by Stampin Up and immediately knew we would be using it for part of the challenge.

I stamped the truck on white and colored the wheels and lightly colored the windshield and window. I stamped the truck again on some Jupiter Stardream Mica and then cut it out and layered it on top of the white. I used my Stampin Up curly label punch to cut out the sentiment. It kinda reminded me of a highway sign and thought it would look better than just a plain square.

I also borrowed another idea that Linda had shared about making faux suede. I used this technique on a card earlier this week and the post is down below somewhere. I also have a link to where you can see how to do the technique.

The headlight beams are made with a white Signo UM-153 gel pen.

Whew...see I have been busy!!

Stamp Club Challenge - Card #3

This is the third card I made for the Stamp Club Challenge. I don't think I care for this one much but it did go together really fast. The oval an black stripe are from the papers we were given. I colored the oval with an Orchid Opulence Stampin Up marker to add some color. The small pink and green flowers are the wedding confetti flowers from Michaels *okie highly recommends these little gems for card making*. I also added a big of bling to the center of the flowers, but not my oh so lovely bling that Carol with two hearts wearing a red cowboy hat from the Cricut messageboard sent me. Like I said before, that bling is for special things! And........NO...this card is not that special *okie cracks up laughin*. I used the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug folder on the pink cardstock. The bottom patterned paper is from my scrap stash and I have no idea what it is.

Stamp Club Challenge - Card #2

Here is the second card I did for the Stamp Club Challenge. The mat and patterned strip are scraps I had left over from cutting lollipop holders at Valentine's day for my friends daughters class. The burgundy cardstock is Stampin Up as is the scalloped border punch.

The image mat papers are from the papers we were given *okie wonders if she should tell her bloggies to scroll down so they can see what she is talking about in case they missed it*. You might need to scroll down so you can see what I am talking about if you missed my post about the Stamp Club Challenge. I used one of the journaling blocks and colored the outside edge with a Stampin Up Bravo Burgundy marker.

The stamped image and sentiment is from a hostess set I got at my Stampin Up party. I chose to stamp the sentiment directly on the flower image and I think it turned out well. You can click if you want to see it close up. I really wasn't sure how that lime green was going to look, but I really like how it seemed to make the image pop!

Here you can see that I pop dotted the stamped image. I did add a piece of chipboard under it because the paper was a little thinner than I cared for and was afraid it would be squishy *okie doesn't think she got enough sleep because she sounds silly to herself*. I tied ribbon through the button. I like using ribbon with buttons if the holes are big enough. If you want to try this just cut your ribbon at a long angle and thread it through.

Stamp Club Challenge - Card #1

Here is my first card for the Stamp Club Challenge. The stamps are Stampin Up and are a hostess set that I got for giving my party a few weeks ago.

The red foil paper is actually candy wrapper. I crumpled it and then glued it to card stock. I stamped with Stazon so it wouldn't smear. The rose is on a block that was trimmed and then I cut off the border and put it across the flower stem. I used line bling to go across the border. I used the Stampin Up Ticket Punch on the corners.

The Distressed Cuttlebug folder was used on the card mat. The Sentiment is also on a journaling die cut taht was on the sheet. I added bling to the flowers on it and then under the sentiment.

A friend of mine is getting married this month so I will be giving this to her.

Stamp Club Challenge - cards, cards and cards!

At Stamp Club we were given the option to join a challenge. For 50 cents you received 3 sheets of paper and the challenge is to make cards using the papers and bring them back to Stamp Club next month. We were told we can add any other papers with what we received as long as the card or project had something from one of the papers on it. Here are pictures of the papers we were given. I have 4 cards made so far and have a few ideas for some others. Just wanted to share what I have been working on the last few days. So keep your eyes peeled...I will be posting at least a few tomorrow!

For the love of BLING! Sweet Treats Bday card

When will the addictions stop? SERIOUSLY?? But they are much more legal, safe and healthy than drugs...right?? *okie nods head up and down so people will agree with her*. So my friend Carol, ya know the Carol with two hearts and the red cowboy hat from the Cricut MB and also one of my fellow Sweet Treats Thursday designers, sent me some bling. I know what you are thinking "Oh okie we know good and well you had enough bling already". And you may be right, but seriously, there is no such thing as having too much bling! *okie stands with one hand on hip and shaking finger at her bloggies to get her point across*. But what Carol with two hearts sent wasn't just any ol bling.....NNOOO.......she sent the GOOD CHIT! I mean the super shiny, multi-faceted, sparkle in your eye kinda bling! And it has to have a special tool to be used! *now okie knows her bloggies are impressed*. Okay not that special of a tool....but still a tool! This is the kind that uses the Hot Fix tool, or like me you can use a Creative Hot Marks tool with the mini flow tip.

I told Carol I wasn't going to use this bling on just anything, it was going to be saved for scrapbook pages. Well I haven't done any scrapbook pages so I gave in and used it on some cards. The patterned paper is from the DCWCV Spring stack from two years ago I believe. The green card base and background stamp of presents are Stampin Up products. The solid on the present is Stardream Mica. The round embellie is from an Imaginisce stack.

The present is cut from Sweet Treats *which okie highly recommends and totally loves...and sends smooches to her friend Razzi for sending her the cart*.

I had the card all done and then thought about the bling that Carol with two hearts sent and thought maybe it would be good for the middle of the polka dots....I think it just made the card so much more...well just MORE!

I wish the pictures could do this justice! But I am not a professional photographer, nor do I play one on tv, so this will just have to do! I wanted to show a close up shot hoping the shine would show better. I think you can see the clarity in this picture.

Stamping Up - Very Vintage Vogue

I was able to get quite a few stamp sets at my Stamping Up party because I had a really good party! *okie is grateful for all the ladies that ordered*. One of the sets I got is Very Vintage Vogue. It is is in the mini-catalouge and is available in Stampin Up's new clear version. Although the stamps aren't clear they do come unmounted and they have cling on the back so you can put it on an acrylic block. They stamps come in a clear CD case for storing. Here is a picture of the stamp set. I think this set has a lot of potential for different occasions.

I stamped the Friends twice and then cut the F out and pop dotted it on top of the bottom image for dimension. My Stampin Ma Jig came in handy for stamping the border on the bottom patterned paper.

I can't wait to use this stamp set again and try out the other stamps in the set!

Are ya tired of cherries yet?

Yes I am addicted to cherries. Yes I will continue to make cherry cards. Yes I am always on constant look out for Cherry paper. And let me tell you...I was totally thrilled when my LSS got in this cherry paper! It is by Creative Imaginations from the Miss Elle Collection and is double sided. Here are some pictures of the paper showing both sides, also showing you the other sheet that I got and haven't used yet.











Folks if you love cherries this paper is beautiful! And it isn't that think panty waist stuff either! It has a nice weight to it. When I found it I got my friend Linda two sheets of each. Well after she got it and used it she promptly emailed me to get her 4 more sheets of each one because she would be sad if she ran out! Matter of fact I was on the phone with my friend Carmen, aka ScrapperDelighted, and told her "gotta call ya from the cell, scrapbook store emergency". And out the door I went! Of course Carmen being a scrapper herself totally understood and did not find it odd at all! *okie laughs at how silly scrappers can be when it comes to paper, adhesive, tools, embellies.......etc, etc, etc*

Using stuff forgotten about! And Faux Suede

When I was reorganizing *okie knows everyone has a hard time believing that okie was reorganizing again* yesterday I found a sheet of square rose images I had forgotten about and immediately thought I could use them for cards. Isn't it amazing what you can find that you have when you reorganize?

I pulled out one of my Cards magazines and flipped through there to find an idea to use. And this is what I came up with.

My friend Linda told me about a new techinque she had tried. It is called faux suede and she learned it from Dawn of Dawn's Stamping Thoughts *okie doesn't care for Dawn because Dawn is way too talented for her own good and swears that Dawn is in cahoots with the government to stimulate the economy because everytime okie see something that Dawn has okie wants it!* What you do is take a bone folder and rake it along your paper several times on both sides and then pull the paper apart. The paper then will look like suede. Not sure if you can really see this but that is what I did on the red strips of paper. You might be able to see if you click the picture and make it bigger.

Wedding card - Cuttlebug only!

I think I have turned into a lazy butt or something since I haven't been making regular posts. I have been making things, just haven't taken pictures *okie smacks her hand and says "bad okie...bad bad bad okie*. I am scheduling a few posts so you guys won't be over run different things in one post.

This is a card I made for someone who recently got married. I made it earlier in the week but didn't want to post it until I thought it has arrived to the receiver. I tried to mail it out one day but then the mailman didn't pick it up. I got a little perturbed about that until I read where he had put "44¢", then I felt a little silly. Not having a 2¢ stamp I had to use another 42¢, but I figure the receiver is worth it *okie cracks up laughin*.

*okie looks behind her and sees her shiny red E sitting there and then whispers....* I didn't use my Cricut at all, only used the Cuttlebug. I used Victoria on the card and border Swiss Dots on the tag. The sentiment is an Stampin Up set I got at the stamp sale back in the fall, I also used the SU corner ticket punch on the sentiment block. The card and tag are made from opal Mica cardstock. That stuff emobsses beautifully! The little flowers are Prima's and for the centers I embossed some plain brads with some black glittery embossing powder. I don't know what kind of ribbon I used, it was some I got at the LSS that closed down.


For the inside I used a piece of pearlescent vellum to stamp the sentiment on and also used the corner ticket punch on it. I used some vellum tape to attach it. I did use Stazon ink for stamping the Sentiment. Since I am not familiar with stamping on vellum I wanted to make sure the ink wasn't going to smear *okie doesn't mention that she also used the Stazon so she could sniff it.....okie really likes the smell of Stazon*. The card isn't messed up at the bottom, I had to get rid of what I had written in the card. Silly me, I didn't take a picture until after I signed it!


I really like how this card came out. And it was so simple. Sometimes I am just amazed at how versatile that the Cuttlebug is! And folks if you don't have one.........YOU NEED ONE!!

Sweet Treats Thursday - St. Patricks Day!

Happy Sweet Treats Thursday my dear bloggies *okie wonders if bloggies is the right term...thinks about it for a minute...shrugs shoulders and decides she likes the word bloggies*. Our assignment for this inspiration Thursday on the Cuttlebug Challenge is St. Patricks Day. My projects are an etched mug and a lapel pin. The mug is hard to take a picture of so I am posting several so you can get the idea.

I purchased the mug from Walmart for $2 and will be given to my BFF Karen *okie thinks regular readers will recognize the name* who in fact is Irish! I know she will be excited to travel the country carrying this mug to drink margaritas! *okie cracks up laughin* I cut the design on vinyl. I removed the design off of the backing and then applied transfer tape on what would be the negative of the image and then applied to the mug. I used the Amour Etching Cream which is simple to use but does smell a little bad LOL. The ribbon is some I got at Walmart in the craft section and is simply tied on so she can take it off for washing purposes.











The lapel pin was made using Mini Monograms and Paper Doll Dress Up. I used stamps for the U Lucky and rainbow. The gold coins are iron on studs purchased at Walmart and I used my Hot Marks tool with the mini-flow point to apply them. I used a white Signo UM-153 gel pen and a black Stampin Up marker for the doodling. I cut the pot in gold and then I cut two of the pots in black. I cut off the gold coin area on the bottom black layer and then cut the top off the pot of the second cut and ran the bottom through the cuttlebug and pop dotted to the full black layer. For the back I used a pin from a name badge that I had. I just used super glue to adhere it to the back of the pin.

Has so many options! I am going to have to order the accessory set to go with it for sure! I just love this little pick up! The layout for the card was taken from the Stampin Up catalog and I really like it!

I stamped the pick up and flowers on white and colored the wheels and flowers using Stampin Up markers. I also shaded the window and windshield slightly using a Stampin Up blending pen and a blue marker *okie forgets which one right off hand*. I stamped the pick up on yellow and cut it out and pop dotted it on top of the white.

I can't remember what the patterned paper is off hand as I got it on clearance at a LSS over a year ago. The maroon is the back side of the patterned paper. The solid green is Prism cardstock and I used a Martha Stewart border punch.

I used crochet thread and for the button and tied it around the ribbon before adhering the ribbon to the card.

I used a silver gel pen to color the bumpers, door handle and hubcaps. The stitching and dotting was done with the Chocolate Chip Stampin Up marker. Chestnut Roan Cateye Chalk ink was used for the shading around the edges.
